Dubrovnik Croatia 2010
A 7 hour bus journey took me from Split to the city of Dubrovnik, even though the trip was very long the views along the way were really amazing and kept me entertained the entire way. Interestingly we had to pass through Bosnia for a few kilometers and hence the annoying passport control process had to take place. Trains dont operate in this region, so its either these buses or the infrequent flights from Split or Zagreb.
Also nicknamed as "Pearl of the Adriatic" Dubrovnik was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. The entire coastal line is fortified by the great wall intended to protect the vulnerable city from the Adriatic coast. One can still see remains of bomb craters inside the city from the pre-Yugoslavian wars. The views from top of the walls are just amazing and one can see clearly the coastline of Croatia for miles, including the island of Lokrum.
